Il Nome “Profusion”, una combinazione di “Progressive” e “Fusion”, viene scelto per il gruppo alla fine 2002, dopo circa un anno dalla formazione della prima cellula musicale, “Mardi Gras Experience” (Vladimer Sichinava – batteria, Gionatan Caradonna – tastiere, Marco Pieri – basso elettrico), un trio fortemente influenzato dal progressive-rock americano degli anni ’90.
Nel corso del primo anno la line-up del trio si allarga con l’entrata del chitarrista Alberto Riggi e del cantante Alessandro Buzzo. Nel 2003 entra a far parte del gruppo anche il flautista Fabiano Biagini.
Nel Luglio del 2004 i Profusion cominciano a registrare il loro primo album auto prodotto, “One Piece Puzzle”, che uscirà solo nel 2006. Alla fine del 2006 il bassista Marco Pieri e il flautista Fabiano Biagini decidono di lasciare la band per seguire progetti personali.
Nel 2007, entrano nel gruppo il bassista Luca Cambi e la cantante-flautista Sara Pianigiani.
Una ricca attività live porta la band al di fuori in giro per l’Italia. Il gruppo approda alla finale del “Trimis International Festival”, classificandosi al 23 esimo posto su 384 gruppi da tutta l’Europa. Nel frattempo “One Piece Puzzle” viene recensito su www.progarchives.come www.unprogged.it ottenendo ottimi voti.
Nel 2009 Irene Conforti, anch’essa già presente in “One Piece Puzzle”, sostituisce Sara in qualità di seconda voce.

Nello stesso periodo entra a far parte, al posto di Alberto Riggi, l’attuale chitarrista della band Thomas Laguzzi.
Il 17 Agosto 2009 i Profusion prendono parte alla nona edizione de “La Città Aromatica” dedicata a Demetrio Stratos. Il gruppo si esibisce con il maestro Mauro Pagani, primo violinista della PFM, in occasione della reunion dello storico gruppo progressive-rock italiano Area.
Nel 2010 la band vince il contest rock regionale “MegaRock”. Nel giugno dello stesso anno il gruppo entra in studio per registrare il secondo album, “Rewotower”.
Durante le registrazioni i cantanti Alessandro Buzzo e Irene Conforti lasciano il posto al nuovo cantante pop-soul Luca Latini, che si lega con entusiasmo al progetto della band.
Il nuovo disco vede la partecipazione di artisti di calibro internazionale quali Simon Hosford (Tommy Emmanuel Band, On The Virge di Virgil Donati…), la cantante jazz italiana Titta Nesti, la cantante jazz georgiana Maia Baratashvili.
Nell’autunno del 2011 il gruppo firma un contratto con l’etichetta americana ProgRock Records che ha pubblicato “Rewotower” all’inizio di febbraio 2012.

The name “Profusion”, a combination of “Progressive” and “Fusion”, was chosen by the group at the end of 2002 just after nearly a year since its first formation “Mardi Gras Experience” (Vladimer Sichinava – drums, Jonathan Caradonna – keyboards, Marco Pieri – electric bass, a trio heavily influenced by American progressive rock of the ’90s).
During the first year, the trio’s line-up expanded with the entry of the guitarist Alberto Riggi and singer Alessandro Buzzo.
In 2003 flautist Fabiano Biagini joined the group.
In July 2004, Profusion began to record their self-produced first album, “One Piece Puzzle”, released only in 2006.
In late 2006, bassist Marco Pieri and flautist Fabiano Biagini decided to leave the band to pursue personal projects.
In 2007, bassist Luca Cambi and vocalist-flautist Sara Pianigiani joined the group.
A full live activity brought the band on a tour around Italy. The group got through to the final of the “Trimis International Festival”, reaching the 23th place out of 384 bands which came from all over Europe. Meanwhile, “One Piece Puzzle” was reviewed on www.progarchives.comand www.unprogged.it getting good grades.
In 2009 Irene Conforti, already included in “One Piece Puzzle”, replaced Sara as second voice.
The group continued to be engaged in live performances. The project’s growth was followed by an increase of band members to achieve the thickness of performances.
In June 21, 2009, to mark the Tenth European Music Day, Profusion shared the stage with DGM and Vision Divine at the “Most Rock Concert” organized in Siena.
In the meantime, guitarist Thomas Laguzzi joined the group, replacing Alberto Riggi.
On August 17, 2009 Profusion took part in the 9th edition of “La Città Aromatica”, entirely dedicated to Demetrio Stratos. The group performed with Maestro Mauro Pagani, first violinist of PFM, for the reunion of the historic Italian progressive-rock band “Area”.
In 2010 the band won the regional rock contest “Megarock”. In June of that year the group entered the studio to start recording their second album “Rewotower”.
During the recordings, singers Alessandro Buzzo and Irene Conforti allowed new pop-soul singer Luca Latini to take their place. He joined to the band project with enthusiasm.
The new album witnessed the involvement of international artists such as Simon Hosford (Tommy Emmanuel Band, Virgil Donati’s On the Virg), Italian jazz singer Titta Nesti and Georgian jazz singer Maia Baratashvili.
In autumn 2011 the band signed a contract with ProgRock Records. The American label will release “RewoToweR” at the beginning of 2012.
